Destination Tokachi

Shimizu Town

The Hidaka Mountains extending for 150 kilometers to Cape Erimo in the southeast, the Tokachi River flowing down from the Daisetsu Mountains, and the contrast of the countryside give rise to the unique atmosphere of Hokkaido’s Tokachi region. The town of Shimizu is accessible from the Tokachi Shimizu IC of the Doto Expressway. One of the town’s draws are the expansive scenery found in places like Nissho Pass and Biman Panorama Park. In addition to Tokachi Millennium Forest, one of the stops on the Hokkaido Garden Path which makes use of the area’s rich environments, natural forests, gardens, agriculture, and art, spots such as park golf courses and Shimizu Park where families can go to relax are also popular. Visitors can also enjoy playing with horses, goats, cows, and sheep at petting farms, as well as cherry picking which is a rare opportunity in the Tokachi area. Popular local cuisine such as gyu-toro-don (raw beef on rice) and beef steak and scrambled eggs on rice are recommended.
