Kamishihoro Town

The town of Kamishihoro stretches out into the heart of the Higashi Daisetsu area of Daisetsuzan National Park where primeval forests surround Lake Nukabira and popular mountains such as Mount Nipesotsu extend for miles. Kamishihoro is also famous throughout Japan for its Hokkaido heritage arch bridges, Naitai Highlands Farm, which boasts the distinction of being the largest public farm in Japan with an area large enough to encompass 362 Tokyo Domes, and as a town for hot air ballooning. The massive natural beauty of Kamishihoro, such as the sea of trees in Higashi Daisetsu visible from the Mikuni Pass, a registered constituent cultural property of Japanese heritage, is also part of the town’s appeal. Visitors can enjoy many different fun activities such as arch bridge tours, mountain climbing, and in the wintertime, skiing and smelt fishing. Making a declaration of its free-flowing hot springs, Nukabira-Gensenkyo won first place in the Refreshing Category of the 2018 National Hot Springs Election and is a must-visit with its unique accommodations and shops.
