Destination Tokachi

Urahoro Town

The town of Urahoro is a heavily wooded town with approximately 74.2% of its area covered in forests and is located in the easternmost part of Tokachi. The charm of Urahoro is slightly different from that of other towns and villages in Tokachi and visitors can experience its majestic scenery, the ruins of its ancient inhabitants, and other romantic and mysterious spaces.
Forest Park, with its lush greenery, is the gem of Urahoro. Packed with so much nature that you would scarcely believe it’s located right next to the city center, Forest Park is a space where visitors can relax and let themselves be a part of nature while enjoying its trails and other amenities such as a drive-up campsite, barbecue house, and trim park. It’s wild flower garden along the Pacific coast and Kobukariishi Lookout are also recommended. Urahoro is also currently in the limelight as a hub for paragliding.
Furthermore, visitors can enjoy birdwatching all year round in the lower part of the Tokachi River, which is an excellent place for taking in views of the natural treasure red-crowned crane and white-fronted goose, as well as the endangered snow goose and cackling goose all at once.
