Destination Tokachi

Ikeda Town

Known for its “Tokachi Wine”, Ikeda Town was the first municipality in Japan to receive a test manufacturing license to produce wine in 1963. The winery that produces Tokachi Wine, the Budo Budo Research Institute of Fermentation, is known as the “Wine Castle” and is a must-visit location in Tokachi that boosts its appeal under the theme of “tourism appealing to the five senses” by offering knowledge about wine in a way that is kind and easy to understand.
Located near the Wine Castle is Tokachi Makiba-no-ie where guests can take in the majestic, idyllic atmosphere of the area. Ikeda Town is also home to a variety of tourist spots such as sheep farms where visitors can see sheepdog shows, hot springs, and shops serving ice cream and cheese. The town also boasts many shops serving delicious cuisine such as Ikeda Beef steaks. Visitors can also try their hands at wool processing or enjoy other outdoor recreation experiences.
